Intel has been spanking them a bit lately

Sounds like a heck of a Spanking if AMD is laying off some Technicians..   :-\   Cy...

Yeah, they didn't really plan for the big boom in smartphones and tablets.  ARM processors really jumped out in the lead early with that, and their share value is up 4 fold from when the whole mobile smart phones took off.  AMD and Intel are seeing the light, 2013 should be interesting as they start busting into these markets as well.

I don't see bankruptcy happening.  Their cash on hand is almost equivalent of their debt.  I may be biased and looking thru rose colored glasses, but I have a lot of faith in this company and breathe the computing industry.  They're putting out some of the fastest video cards on the market with ATI, and their fastest CPU's are on par with Intels.  Where they screwed themselves is that Intel has the server market cornered in businesses, leaving AMD to target consumers with their high end customers being gamers.  Also they had a bad launch on a cycle of CPUs for overheating.  Now here's where it gets interesting to me.  The new gaming consoles Wii U, XBox 720 will be powered with AMD chips.  Wii U comes out black friday and Nintendo is known for being the highest selling console ever.  I expect a bounce in a big way based off of sales of this alone, and XBox next year.  They have the R&D and the smarts to enter the tablet / mobile market in a big way, hopefully they correct that huge mistake and direct their focus there next year as they've stated.
