The article claims that the young man who brought the elderly woman the bread was not a relative, which made this against the law. However, I read another article that stated he was the nephew of her late husband, which, in my book, makes him a relative. Not that that matters under these insane laws.
Apparently, in Saudi Arabia, a woman's sister's husband is not a relative either, as he is never allowed to see her face, even in her own home at the dinner table. Try to imagine the absurdity of having to eat entirely covered up (i.e. veiled) in the presence of your own family, and you begin to realize the extremism of this culture.
When you understand Saudi culture under sharia law, you begin to understand that this is what Bin Laden and his fellow jihadis want for the rest of the world, and why our culture is such an affront to their religious ideals.
Women's rights, in particular, suffer under Islamist regimes. I could bring up more horrific violations, but this one is relatively recent and actually quite mild compared to some of the others.
