Alternate Message Format
« on: February 25, 2008, 06:26:43 PM »
Hey Doc, here is an idea about a message format that I personally would find helpful (perhaps you have this already and I am just unaware).  I have spent time today getting used to your new forum, but I notice a disadvantage when I compare with your existing website.

Though the forum makes the topics more organized, I have had to spend a lot more time hunting through the topics to find the information I'm looking for.  I like the existing website format where every message is listed in chronological order so that I can see all messages on one page as they are posted.

Is it possible that a viewing option could be a format that resembles your existing website?  I like it that way because I often learn about other subjects/stocks as I efficiently scroll through the days messages without having to click in and out of different topics (trying to remember if I have already read the messages in that topic or not).

Just an idea.

A forum works different from the blog, and I am afraid that what you want is not possible, but, you have some tools to help you, for example, when you open the forum, look to the left upper corner, you have a link that says this "Show unread posts since last visit" and "Show new replies to your posts", you can use this to go directly to what you have not read yet, you can also look to a blue icon before the boards name, if that symbol is highlighted, that board has new posts, if not, no new posts, if you click on a board each topic that has new posts has a blue symbol saying "New", after you read, that symbol disappears. These are tools to help, but, there are many Modifications available to SMF forums, with time, I will install all the modifications that I find useful, I will search the SMF site for things that can help.

Thanks for your suggestion.
