Thanks for sharing, I've tried multiple times to kick it.  Took me by surprise you mentioned Wellbutrin, I was actually the most successful with that one about 10 years ago.  It kinda made me forgetful at the time I was on it... so I'd forget I wanted a cig, but I also forgot things I was trying to learn for classes.  Did manage to quit for about 6 months that time, then I screwed up and bummed a smoke at the bar... ended up right back where I started.

I really had no side effects at all from the Wellbutron... Probably different with different people... I also tapered off the Wellbutrin for about a month after I quit. I have also concluded that once you quit, you are like an alcoholic, there is no such thing as "I'll just have one"... I still fight the urge a little when someone lights up around me... It smells so damn good... LOL

I think another thing that was helpful is I picked an easy day to remember for my quit day... I was out to dinner, etc., the night before my birthday. I had a half of cigarette at home... When I got home, I smoked it and went to bed. When I woke up, it was my birthday, I had no cigarettes in the house so I was done...

Very nice.  That's a nasty habit I still haven't kicked.  Props to ya, I'm gonna give the patches a whirl starting next week.

It can be done J. There is nobody enjoyed their smokes more than me. I smoked for over forty years and was a 2 pack a day guy... I still would love to have one but I never give in... I took the drug Zyban (Wellbutron). I think that helped a lot... I just kept cutting back the amount of cigs I would allow myself to have everyday... When I got down to 4, I quit. Also, I quit smoking a whole cig... I would just take 2-3 puffs and put it out... Moved my ashtray and cigs to the kitchen so I would have to get up and go out there to get a puff... Took me 6 months from start to finish to quit...

I smoked during 14 years, from 14 until 28 years old, an average of one pack a day, sometimes a little more, one day when my wife was pregnant of my daughter, I took the decision to never smoke again, to turn the things more difficult, I put my pack of cigs on the panel of my car, right in front of me, precisely to challenge myself, it was there about one week, after this week, on a weekend, I gave it to my neighbour, until today, I am 45, I never touched a cigar again, with me, needs to be this way, it was a fight between my brain and my body, I don't say it was easy, the first 2 - 3 days were very hard, but, after a week, I was ok.

You're a masochist doc, putting those smokes right in front of ya :).  Congrats to ya tho, I've kicked several bad habits over the years, but this one is definitely the most challenging to me.

LOL, no I am not, but, I am mentally strong, and, I like to challenge myself, usually this helps me to win, if things are easy, I tend to not make enough effort, so as I know myself very well, I use this trick to achieve my goals.

Hrmmm. I might have to take ya up on that idea.  I'm the same way when it comes to things being easy, that's why I got D's in stupid courses like cultural geography, but aced upper level math classes.  Actually, my best semester was when I was working 60+ hours a week, and taking classes til midnight.
